"I think the more likely option is that something died in here." Saki said covering her own nose. "Come on let's get out of here. We can just tell the city guards about that scream."

It felt like a little more than that but both brother's let it go. No point in lingering here anyway. Burner could see the exit, "Alright then."

Saki went to push open the door, but it didn't open. "Alright." She pushed harder shaking it. "It wasn't this hard to open from the outside." This time she pushed he whole body into trying to shove open the door, but still it didn't open. "Burner try to get this thing open will ya."

The teen walked up to it, rearing his leg back he went to smash it into the wood, but nothing happened. Frowning he inspected his leg, which should have at least splintered the first layer of wood, but no, it hadn't. Looking closer he realized his foot wasn't even touching the door. It was as if it was being held by some unseen force. Pulling his leg back he frowned. "Well that didn't work."
"Try your spirit beast then," Salem said suddenly and Burner bristled.
"Why don't you try yours?" he groused, earning that infuriatingly patient smile from Salem, but they both knew that Burner wouldn't like it. Not at all. It probably wouldn't even help in this situation and when it came to abilities his was more specialized for this matter.
Letting out a calming breath the boy's body began to glow an eerie crimson. Feathers danced around the area, honing in on Burner's new form. The top of the creature's head was covered by a skull, ears poking out and twitching in irritation. Three tails fanned out behind him as he approached the door. Plucking a feather from one wing the creature let it float forward before sending it ramming into the door. Suddenly the area lit up with a white hot light as the door crackled angrily. The ashes of the feather floated to the ground.
"I know what it is," Burner informed. "It's an incantation used by spirits. It can't simply be broken by force, the spirits need to have something resolved before they'll let us go."

"I knew people in the fire Saki, I wouldn't make that up." This must have been the first time he used her actual name. He followed the brothers to the exit once they came up to the level they were on. "What the hell are you kid?" He stared at the Burners spirit animal.

"It's name was once Faron," he said, turning to look at Shizuo as he sat down. The Restins clan had made it priority to figure out any information they could on their children's spirit beasts just in case there could be negative effects. "In ancient text it was thought to be a herald of misfortune, but it has another ability, it is a form of medium for the dead."

"Stop showing off hot head. It's not that impressive." She had witnessed a fight between a Drake and a Phoenix a few weeks ago. "So how should we get out of here?"

"At least I was trying to be productive!" Burner snapped back. Had flaming ears even paid attention to what he'd said? Didn't seem like it. Though she seemed a bit off since entering this place. "Like I said earlier, something needs to be resolved before we'll be let go."
There was a whispering in his ears, something of a plea before it was swallowed up into a maddening drone of other voices. Walking forward he glanced around the area sensing something the others couldn't.
"The spirits appear to be connected to..." Ears shot straight up as he turned to look at Shizuo. "You Shizuo..."

"Me. Why the hell would they be connected to me." He let his cigarette fall from his hand onto the floor. "I don't even believe in this superstitious nonsense." He muttered stomping out his cigarette. Shizuo stood in front of the door reared back and slammed his fist as hard as he could into the door. Of course it didn't move. "Tch." He was starting to get annoyed at this point.

Burner walked up to Shizuo, but stepped no closer to the calgor than necessary, his spiteful tongue would have to be traded in for a careful one now. "Shizuo, I don't know why they are, but they are connected to you. You don't have to tell us, but they need to be released from here."
He had never used his ability for anything like this and so he was new at this, but he could hear them. It felt like a weight was pressing in on him, his bones almost felt like they were creaking. Then as if his body had a mind of it's own he stepped a bit closer.
They knew Shizuo and they cared for him so greatly that they must be family. Swallowing thickly he added in a voice that wasn't quite his anymore, "Please."

"Shizuo." Saki spoke softly. She was worried, she hadn't seen him breakdown like that in awhile. 'Something must have got to him.'

Shizuo growled at their intrusion. "My past is my own." He lit another cigarette quickly taking a long drag. "I'm going to find a way out of here." He took off walking down the hall going to find an exit. He didn't care if the others followed or not.

"I told you, you didn't have to tell us," Burner said in a calm voice as he followed after, several paces behind to give Shizuo some space and to give Burner a chance to get out of the way just in case. The teen was surprised that for once his voice held no venom or sarcasm. "But you need to talk to whoever it is because unless you do, nobody is getting out of here."
In the few books he read over the matter, spirits could bind or lock a place down by using their will and it wasn't always intentional either. Sometimes they had no idea they've done it, and even when they do they do not know how to release it. Generally this led to things needing to be resolved between the dead and the living before the spirit could pass on. He wondered faintly if what he read was true, and if it was then that was quite frankly terrifying, especially with Shizuo being so unwilling to face whoever these spirits were.
All three tails bristling as ears perked suddenly. There was more than just the two spirits connected to Shizuo here. His throat suddenly felt dry, so he swallowed, it didn't help. This was bad from what he was feeling. Very, very bad. He wasn't sure if it was the spirit of a calgor or of something else entirely, but whatever it was it was above them. He looked up, which was useless considering he couldn't see through solid objects, but he could feel it. It had been dormant up until this point, but now it was shifting.
Perhaps it was drawn to restless spirits? He wouldn't pretend he knew everything about spirits, because he didn't, but he could tell it was predatory in nature. Now he really wished he had read more books over the matter, gotten deeper into the subject, but he never thought it would be important to know those things. Guess that was coming to bite not only him but the others in the butt too.

"Come on Salem let's try to catch up." She hurried off after the two down the hall. I had been at least ten minutes and they still hadn't found them. "Gods it's like the halls keep changing when we're not looking." She turned to Salem ears flaming. "Do you think they're okay?"

Salem followed after Saki, noting the way they just appeared to be turning in circles. Sapphire eyes glanced back to look at the way they had just come from with a calculating look. He turned back at her inquiry. "Blitz is young but there is no denying his skill, and I'm sure Shizuo is fine as well. Though that is just physical, as for psychological I couldn't tell you."
From the way Shizuo was acting it was obvious he'd been affected by the turn of events, more so than them. He suddenly stopped and picked up a familiar feather. It was undoubtedly from Blitz and when he looked up he saw another. It may not be much, but perhaps they could follow them and find the two. If they were even still together that is.
