Rein sighed as she closed the door to her rooms with a soft 'snick'. She'd listened to her father's lecture on how her spending her time with some other family reflected poorly on him. Like he cared at all about how she felt about it. She padded her way to her closets, moving as quietly as possible. She didn't want to alert either her father of Anita, her hand made, of her escape. She pulled on several extra layers of cloths and two extra jackets. She wished she had the beautiful cloaks that the calgors were rumored to wear. She felt her floor for her winter snow boots that Hisao had bought her. They were insulated in thick animal hide and always kept her warm. She snagged a hat and her fire kit before flicking the lock on her door and sneaking out her window. The edge of the roof near her window touched a heavy branch of a tree and allowed an easy escape. She dropped her bag that housed her extra jackets, a fur quilt, and her fire kit to the ground with a muffled thump. She slowly climbed down the tree and taking her now snow covered pack, ran to her haven in the woods.
As she ran in the early hours of the morning she kicked snow up the skirt of her dress. She laughed as she shivered. As she reached the first edge of the woods she rested to catch her gasping breath. She'd be in her haven soon enough. She began to walk to her hide out, slowly twining her way around large groupings of trees and laughing at the memory of her father telling her she'd get lost if she came out here. She was in the middle of fantasizing about a life on her own, living with the calgors, and never having to marry someone she didn't know or like, when she tripped over something that should not have been there.
She was miles out from the village and still a ways from her haven. She briefly wondered if she'd gotten turned around while dreaming of better things but dismissed the idea immediately. She knew she was only a few minuets from her warm dug-out and that her path should not have been blocked. She'd stayed on her stomach as she had fallen in the snow but now she pulled her legs in and turned to crawl back to see what had been left in her path. She felt along the ground until her hand hit a rock. She figured an animal could have kicked it into the path. But then she pushed her hand over it and discovered fingers. "A person!" She yelped a little too loudly. She thought it streinge as she didn't smell or sense anyone near. "It was SO cold..." She mused to her self as she scooted closer to the fallen person. She felt with her hand until it was over his back. "Still breathing." She whispered in awe. As she decided he was male.
She knew she couldn't lift him and they were too far from her hide out for her to drag him. She'd have to make do with where they were. She pulled off her pack and covered him with her jackets. Then she stood and wondered off the small trail into the brush. She systematically cleared a spot large enough for the two and a small fire that was far nough from the animal trails not to disturb them. Once she was done she started a fire in the center with wood she'd dug out from under a large bush. She hated waiting for the wood to dry. As her fire caught and started to grow she dragged the unconscious man into her make shift camp. She rolled him onto the blanket nearest the fire and tucked him in with the larger of the two jackets. She had them under an overhang of brush too keep snow off them as she banked the fire and laid next to him. She giggled at her little adventure while she cuddled in next to him with her own jackets.

There were two things Kei noticed subconsciously as he laid on the ground. One that he wasn't so numb anymore and he could swear he wasn't alone. Actually he could feel he wasn't alone. There was...s-someone laying next to him? His eyes opened suddenly, and found himself wrapped in a cocoon of jackets? Yes, yes they were jackets. His head snapped around and his eyes widened as they landed on a girl, a girl for Peter's sake! About a year younger he calculated, and too incredibly close for comfort. Kei tried telling himself not to be rude, not to freak out and run away-the jackets were binding him rather snug anyways-but she was a girl! A female, opposite sex, and every fiber of his body screamed, 'Run away!'
"U-Un-W-Where am I?" Well at least he managed to avoid making a complete fool of himself by trying to escape the jackets. She wasn't harming him, unless this was some odd calgor ritual. No, no, no...he'd never read anything like that in the books he read. Unless it'd changed over the years and his books were dated! "A...am I gonna die?"

Rein rubbed her eyes as the guy she'd saved pulled her from her drowsyness. "Oh... I was nearly asleep." She pouted as she sat up and stretched. She could feel the cold creeping into their camp. The fire was really low. "Sorry." She mumbled figuring that was what had woken the man, haveing not heard his questions. "I'll get it." She pushed her jacket aside and stood, walking to the oposite side of the fire. She reached down and after feeling out for several medium sized pieces she gently dropped them onto the fire. "No sparks got on the blankets did they!?" She asked hurridly, forgetting their makeshift bed was so close. She blushed at her mistake as she felt blindly for the edge of the bed. "I don't usually sleep so close." She mumbled trying to excuse her blunder.

She was going to kill him, she was! Why else would she blatantly ignore his questions. Several very reasonable conclusions popped into his head, but his brain wouldn't have it. He was stuck whether he liked it or not though, as the girl moved about and...panicked? Why would she be panicking? She was the one going to murder him! But...if she was going to do him harm wouldn't she have done it already?
Finally reason seemed to filter through his numb mind and he relaxed taking in a deep breath. He always did this...always assumed the worst. Kei let out a shuttering breath trying to feel his limbs, unable to understand what the girl was talking about, but marginally worried about what had caused her to panic.
Might as well try and sit up to see what the matter was. Kei grunted softly as he managed to pull himself into a sitting position, rubbing his eyes under his glasses.

Rein felt the shifting in the blanket as He tried to move. "No, You musn't!" She panicked as she skurried to his side. She pressed lightly on his chest. "You're too weak to get up yet." She told him as she felt around for her pack. She'd put some snacks in there and she thought he could use them.

His body jerked slightly and about involentarily threw him away from the girl. Gosh he hated his phobia sometimes, who the heck should be afraid of girls? They were the same species, right? Good lord, right?! Kei let out a very pathetic whimper trying to talk, why couldn't he talk...

Rein was cought off guard as he suddenly seemed to disapear from her restraining hand. She fell forward into the snow with a cry, unable to catch herself. "Oww..." She sighed, a little imbarresed that she had lost both his location and her sence of the space when she fell. "She pushed herself back onto her legs and into a sitting possition. "Sorry bout that." She said, while facing in the general direction he had gone. It failed as it was still several feet to side of where he was. "Do you see my pack?" She didn't know why he had cried out eirlier, but she figured it was the cold and the pain. He could really use some food now.

Kei felt shame swell in his heart as his eyes rested on her. She was blind. He'd acted very rude to her in the first place, but knowing she was blind made him feel worse. She hadn't even been expecting him to move away from her like that. He tried making his voice work but it just wouldn't for some reason. Strain? Yeah, maybe that was it, or his body was still in shock.
Looking over he saw the pack and reached out for it, snagging it before gently depositing it into her hands, which shook from his phobia.

Rein beemed at him, now aware of his location. She blushed from the shame she felt, but was confused by the trimmers she could feel radiating off him. "Thank you." She told him as she accepted the bag. She shook out two snack bars into her hand and held one out. "You must be tired after you passed out like that." She offered as she used her teeth to open the end of one bar. "where were you heading anyway? You're no where near any village, and the borders are still way off." She was rambling now as his nervous shock began to catch her in it's tendrills.

Work voice work! He took the bar tentatively, desperately trying to get his voice to work. "I...d-did pass o-out didn't I?" he managed weakly, voice raspy from lack of use. He thanked her for the snack bar and opened it carefully, taking a small bite of it. His appetite wasn't quite there, he never really ate much in the first place, but he certianly didn't want to be rude. Where was he headed? "I-I'm s...sorry." He said after a moment. "I've b-been quite r-rude and I apologize." he blinked at her, no one really ever asked where he was headed, of course he generally stayed away from others. "I was actually heading towards...calgor territory."

"Your going to see them?!" She exclaimed as she dropped her food, it all but forgotten. "I wish I could go!" She was pink from head to toe as her dreams of the Calgors flooded her mind. "Why are you going there? How?!" She demanded a little too eager. She found herself kneeling directly in front of him, way too close, smiling like she never had before.

Too close! Too close! Kei felt his familiar walls creep up on him, and he tried to resist his phobia. Digging his finger into the ground he spoke, voice choppy with his fear. "U-Uh, I w-wanted to s-see them," he said softly. "I'd r-read stories about them, all my l-life." He poked his fingers together, trying to keep his eyes off the girl in front of him. As he glanced down at his hands he noticed drops of blood speckling his hands. Just perfect. Using the side of his hand he tried quelling the nose bleed. "J-Just walking, or h-hitchhiking. Uh, why can't you s-see them-?" Good lord why did he look up, she was right there! His phobia took force and darkness consued him.

As Rein felt the shift in the breeze as he fell back she panicked, confused as to why he'd fainted and why she could smell blood. "Umm... hey..." She whispered she lightly rocked him. "You'll get cold again." She warned as she tried to wake him. She sighed and began to pull him back onto the bed closer to the fire. Her stomach gurgled, reminding her that she'd dropped her food. After she covered him back up she resumed her serch for her food, blindly feeling out the ground.

Ugh...he'd fainted, hadn't he? No, not fainted, passed out, that sounded manlier. His eyes flickered open again, and he reached up, feeling the wetness of blood on his upper lip. He hated nose bleeds. Huh, where was the gi- The anxiety from his phobia trickled back in and he sighed softly. There she was.

"So your up again?" Rein asked sounding as if she found it fun. "You're bleeding. Sorry I would have helped but I can't really clean it..." She was blabbering again, She hated not being able to see. Now it must be all dry and uncomfortable. "I put you back on the bed. I wasn't sure if you wanted me to or not. It would have been rude to leave you in the snow. Do have any things?" She was getting faster by the moment as she twined her hands and looked off in a random direction. "I felt around for anything but didn't find anything you'd have dropped. I'm not very good at finding things like that. If you're on a journey I guessed you'd have a pack or something. I wish I was leaving. My father would kill me. Well not really. He'd probably only cripple me and make me marry some old guy. I wouldn't like that. I would never be able to return home if I left." She paused for a breath and blushed as she realized the reason she was winded. She'd been ranting in a whispered voice to an injured man she'd found passed out on a road! "Sorry." She whispered quietly and went quiet, twisting a piece of random cloth she'd found when looking for his stuff.
